Context

Reddit's iOS app serves video to a very large daily audience, inside one of the least forgiving surfaces in mobile: an infinite, fast-scrolling feed. Video there has to start the instant a post reaches the viewport, stay smooth while someone flicks past, and never introduce the kind of stutter that makes a whole feed feel cheap. At that scale, small inefficiencies in the player or the media pipeline are multiplied across millions of sessions.

Role & approach

I worked as a Senior iOS Engineer on video — the player and the media pipeline underneath it. That means treating playback behaviour, buffering, lifecycle, and scroll interaction as first-class problems rather than afterthoughts, and holding a high bar for how the surface behaves under real-world conditions on real devices.

Outcome

Video that holds up at feed scale — the unglamorous, high-leverage work a platform this size depends on every day.
